Ultrasound Therapy, Tamworth
For Muscle Pain, Sports Injuries, Fibromyalgia, Plantar Fasciitis, Joint Pain

What is ultrasound therapy and how can it help you?

Ultrasound is a form of treatment that works by using high frequency sound waves to treat injuries and pain in muscles, tendons and soft tissues in general. Your therapist can alter and manipulate the length and frequency of the sound waves so that they are targeting the correct area and achieve the desired affect.

Common Injuries Treated With Ultrasound:

Bursitis
Tendonitis
Muscle strains and tears
Frozen shoulder
Sprains and ligament injuries
Joint contracture or tightness

Generally speaking, any soft-tissue injury in the body may be a candidate for ultrasound therapy. It can be used for low back pain, neck pain, rotator cuff tears, knee meniscus tears, or ankle sprains.

Ultrasound Therapy for chronic conditions like Fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Arthritis is also available.

How Ultrasound Therapy works

Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment technique that uses sound waves to provide healing benefits to various tissues in the body. Unlike diagnostic ultrasound, which creates images of the inside of the body, therapeutic ultrasound aims to treat medical conditions by delivering targeted sound waves.

Ultrasound therapy is a non-invasive treatment in which the sound waves are used to penetrate soft tissues, increasing blood flow. This can help relieve pain, improve circulation, and promote tissue healing. The ultrasound wave produced by the ultrasound probe causes the tissues to vibrate, leading to a process called cavitation, which can improve the flexibility and function of the soft tissue.

Injuries and issues that involve scar tissue, pain and muscle spasm, nerve pain and neuroma are all successfully treated by ultrasound.

Ultrasound Therapy is:

  • Non-invasive and requires no downtime, so you can get back to your day

  • Healthy and natural, producing no side effects

  • Comfortable and easily tolerated by most people

  • Quick, with each session lasting only a few minutes

  • Ultrasound Therapy is a soft-touch contact treatment, making it a first line choice of pain relief for patients with hypersensitive pain conditions like Fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and Arthritis.

How Is Ultrasound Applied?

Ultrasound is performed with a machine that has an ultrasound transducer (sound head). A small amount of gel is applied to the particular body part; then the sound head is slowly moved in a small circular direction on your body. The settings of the ultrasound unit can be changed to control the depth of penetration of the ultrasound waves or change the intensity of the ultrasound. Different settings are used in various stages of healing.

What Ultrasound Feels Like

While you are receiving an ultrhsound treatment, you will most likely not feel anything happening, except perhaps a slight warming sensation or tingling around the area being treated.

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is treatment that falls outside of mainstream healthcare.

The availability of CAM on the NHS is limited, and in most cases the NHS will not offer such treatments. When a non-mainstream practice is used together with conventional medicine, it's considered "complementary. Complementary therapies are adjunctive: They are used in addition to, not instead of, standard medical care. Complementary therapists are not trained or authorized to diagnose medical conditions. They are trained to recognize "red flag" symptoms and refer patients to appropriate medical professionals when necessary. It's important to remember that Complimentary therapists are not medical doctors and cannot diagnose medical conditions in the same way that a doctor can.
